Make Your Own Bug Spray
Those pesky mosquitos are out. I already have a few lovely welts on my legs to show for it. I am usually covered up if I am outside after the sun has gone down. Don’t know how those blood suckers do it, but they find a way! If I am outside after dusk (mosquito feeding time) I better have that bug spray on or they will be having me for dinner.
I have made a point the past few years to purchase insect repellents that are DEET free. California Baby has been our favorite. This year however, I thought I would try and make our bug spray. After looking at different websites, it really is not hard at all and contains minimal ingredients. The common ingredients throughout most of these homemade repellents are witch hazel (easy to find at your local pharmacy) and certain essential oils (lemongrass and citronella are mentioned the most) . THAT’S IT!
Here are two websites with homemade insect repellent recipes to try:
*Homemade Natural Mosquito Spray – gives a quick tutorial to make your own spray that includes pictures. Uses only four ingredients!
*Homemade Natural Bug Spray Recipes That Work! – I like this website for the easy essential oil bug spray, but there are also recipes for making a bug spray from fresh or dried herbs.
