5 Inexpensive Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day is one of those holidays we all like to celebrate no matter what our heritage may be. Want to have some fun this St. Patrick’s Day but do not want to break the bank doing so? Here are five fun ways to do just that:
1. Go to a Parade.
Almost all large cities have a parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. But even smaller cities and towns do too! Parades are fun and entertaining for the entire family and the best part is that they are free.
2. Make St. Patrick’s T-shirts and decorations.
Take an old plain T-shirt, fabric paint or markers and get creative designing your own St. Patrick’s Day shirt. You can also find many free craft ideas online and create some fun decorations for your home that won’t break the bank. Here is a cute one that I found that involves only scissors, a hole punch, felt and grosgrain ribbon.

3. Cook Irish food.
Rather than going out to eat at your local Irish pub/restaurant, try cooking some authentic Irish food at home. Most traditional Irish foods use simple, basic and cheap ingredients. Try this easy Colcannon recipe (Photo courtesy of CookinBug) or this white soda bread recipe I found on Epicurious (a go-to website when looking for recipes). Both contain minimal ingredients.
4. Color it green!
And if cooking traditional Irish food is not bringing out that St. Patrick’s Day spirit, than get out the green food coloring. You can start your St. Patrick’s Saturday morning with green pancakes or green eggs. For an after lunch treat make some green jello. And for a yummy dessert to end your day, here is a healthy version of McDonald’s Shamrock Shake that you can make at home.

Create a Potluck SignUp on Local Buggy and invite friends to come over and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with you. Rather than having to host the entire celebration yourself (which gets costly), having a potluck saves you time and money.
